Exterior Painting

If you are thinking about having some exterior painting done in the near future, its a good idea to figure out what colours you think would look best on your home. One of the easiest ways to do this, is to take a drive around your neighbourhood and look for some of the houses that stand out. What colour combinations do they use? Ask the owners of the homes. Most will be thrilled that you like the look of their house and will happily tell you the names of the paints they chose. Taking in to account the design of your home, do you feel the same colours would look good?

Once you have a few colour combinations in mind, your next step is to look at the houses on either side of yours. Carefully consider each of the choices you have made and decide which ones would look best in between those houses. You don’t want to paint your home in colours that are very similar to, or the same as your neighbours, but you also don’t want to have the only neon yellow house in amongst the earth tones surrounding you. Your house should be different, but still fit in.

If you are still unsure of how your choices would look on the exterior of your house, you can upload a picture of your home to one of the many paint colour software programs that are available online and try out different combinations. This way, you get to see what the finished product will look like before its even started. You might even find a colour that you never even considered, but somehow when applied to your house looks perfect.

Hiring a colour consultant for a professional opinion is another option that is available to you. If you aren’t great with colour, find someone who is. You will be a lot happier when you try to sell your home if the choice you make is one that appeals to many people.

Before having any exterior painting done, put some thought in to it. It is the first impression people have of your house and it is also the first thing you see when you arrive home after work each day.
